DAAD-Workshop «Non-Conflicts» in Central Asia
In cooperation with the Kazakh-German University (DKU) and Al-Farabi University (KazNU), Hochschule Rhein-Waal (HSRW) invites applications for participation in the workshop «Non-Conflicts” in Central Asia, to be held in June 2020 in Almaty, Kazakh-stan. The workshop will be funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in the framework of the Ost-West-Dialog programme.
The research-driven workshop takes up the theme of non-conflicts and applies it to Central Asia, discussing three cases where violence might have occurred, but actually did not: Northern Kazakhstan, Southern Kyrgyzstan and Northwestern Uzbekistan. The overarching academic goal is to find out whether these cases are non-conflicts, i.e. vis-ible or latent tensions that could have credibly led to large-scale violence, up to civil or inter-state war, but actually did not, for reasons to be fleshed out by the participants and tutors. In answering this question, participants will improve their knowledge about comparative conflict studies and conflict prevention.
The workshop will include five modules, taught by Dr. Sebastian Mayer (DKU), Dr. Corinna Hauswedell (Conflict Analysis and Dialogue, Bonn), Dr. Niklas Rolf (HSRW), Thorsten Kaesler (KazNU) and Zhulduz Baizakova (KazNU). A certificate will be awarded upon completion of the workshop.
