DKU together with the Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg organized the VIII Kazakh-German Forum

The Kazakh-German University together with the Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg organized the VIII Kazakh-German Forum «Transformation of logistics services in the face of global challenges of our time», which was held on November 20, 2020.

The event was attended by representatives of transport and logistics organizations, scientists, university lecturers, doctoral students, postgraduates, applicants and undergraduates.

The forum discussed current issues of transport and logistics, as well as ways to gain new knowledge and expand constructive dialogue in the field of logistics for Central Asian countries. Together with the guests and participants of the forum, the experience of foreign colleagues was analyzed and new opportunities and ways to address the consequences of global challenges for maintaining the stability and prosperity of our countries were identified. The forum was held in a distance format and gathered more than 110 participants on its site.

The first section of the forum was devoted to the impact of digitalization on the logistics sector. It discussed the political and economic consequences of changes due to the pandemic and increased attention to the issues of digitalization of processes and changes in the economic course in Central Asian countries, as well as the main trends and problems of the industry: artificial intelligence systems, data mining, Internet and cloud computing, training systems, human-machine interaction, parallel and distributed computing, software development, sensors and measuring devices, theoretical computer science in the field of logistics. During this session, the moderators brought up a number of key issues for discussion by experts and participants, such as the impact of digitalization on the logistics sector. The main trends and problems of the industry, modern digital technologies in logistics, remote work in the transport services market and cyber security rules were discussed, as well as the main risks of transport operators in connection with the COVID-2019 epidemic. In addition, the experts identified the current problems of modern higher education and suggested ways to solve them in the Central Asian countries in terms of the development of information and communication technologies. Participants were invited to familiarize themselves with distance learning software products based on the collective experience of foreign countries.

The second section was held under the slogan of the revival of the Great Silk Road at the present stage of logistics and economic processes, as well as the organization of international transport. Participants discussed measures to ensure successful and comfortable passage of border and customs control at border stations, as well as the transport and logistics system of the Eurasian region in the program for creating international economic cooperation corridors. In addition, topical issues of cross-border interaction were raised to improve the efficiency of environmental activities and reduce environmental problems. Important aspects of the discussion were also new challenges of the labor market, current issues of training specialists who are able to perceive and develop market needs in a timely manner, and, of course, the tasks of technology transfer that will allow our countries to adopt the experience of European countries. For example, the LogCentre created at the Kazakh-German University is designed to combine the areas of research, education, professional development and practice in the field of production, transport and warehouse logistics. The transfer of German logistics know-how to Kazakhstan is one of the key missions of the LogCentre.

The third section became a platform for discussing the topic «Digitalization in the field of mobility and logistics in cities». Urban mobility and logistics in cities is a fairly large sector, the formation of which is associated with two factors: cities have begun to pursue a policy of abandoning personal road transport and developing integrated transport systems comparable to the convenience of a personal car. Many cities already have a unified billing system and calculate a single fare for transportation by all types of urban transport, even those belonging to different market structures. The section discussed issues of digitalization as a means of green urban logistics, modeling and simulation of traditional and autonomous bicycle sharing systems of the new generation, a conceptual model for modeling the next generation bicycle sharing system, e-mobility deployment: modeling the connection of transport and electric networks, maneuverable flood protection in urban areas through the development and implementation of an Agency logistics model to increase resilience to external impacts. During the discussion, new topical areas of research of German colleagues were announced, in which much attention is paid to urban logistics and the introduction of new models for managing demand for environmentally friendly methods of cargo delivery.
